I have an app fetish. I love shiny new apps, especially aesthetically pleasing ones. I even like changing the app’s icon to ‘personalise’ it. Yep, I’m hooked. Reading about new apps is one of my guilty pleasures on my news feed.
Most serve the purpose of either increasing my productivity or improving my leisure time. Let me share the apps on my iPad’s first page – the collection I use most. Starting with a calendar app: Fantastical. This is similar to the standard Apple Calendar but does have a lovely contacts app called Cardhop that is so much better than Apple’s Contacts. One has to have a weather app if British. I use Carrot because the snarky comments make me smile. I also use Weather & Radar for the gorgeous, moving weather maps. For news, I read The Guardian Editions app, and I also enjoy the FT Edit late in the evening. I’m not interested in finance, but I love the eight socio-economic articles on Edit every day. Bear is a lovely note-taking app and has my shopping list on it. Day One is my beautiful travel journaling app. Oura connects to my ring and analyses my health, activity, sleep and stress.
For podcasting, I use the Shure microphone MOTIV for recording and BuzzSprout for hosting. For listening to podcasts, I love the look of the Pocket Casts app. Apple’s Books has a similar nice appearance and holds my audiobooks (that are actually from Audible) and ebooks. To round off, Things is a lovely-looking todo app, Final Cut Pro for filming and editing videos, and I use either DuckDuckGo or Safari as a browser. Proton is my privacy email provider. I have a few map apps (I love pouring over maps), and LinkedIn is my most used social media at the moment. I keep all my recipes found online or in books, on CookBook. That’s just the first page. There are loads of apps hoping for promotion that are in alphabetical order on pages two to six.
If you got this far, I possibly didn’t bore you. You may even have an app fetish like me!
